Technology Engagement Center (TEC) Conference Room User Guide


The Technology Engagement Center (TEC) Conference Room seats approximately 30 people and has re-configurable tables, power connectors, and chairs that can be set up as either a conference room or classroom style.  It is available for all Duke faculty or staff member to reserve by inviting TEC-ConferenceRoom-132 <oit.132oitteleco2921@win.duke.edu> to your meeting via Duke’s Microsoft Exchange service. The room is not bookable for courses or general staff meetings. We request that meetings be related to the mission of the TEC which is to simulate discussion around innovation and the use of technology in teaching, learning and research at Duke.

This room is a self-supported space so it is important that you review the documentation below and show up prior to your meeting so you can familiarize yourself with the AV functions.

Turning the AV System On (Video)

To turn the AV system on, visit the 10” touch screen on the podium. If the screen is blank, touch the screen to wake the device. Then, touch the screen a second time, following the on-screen instructions, to turn the AV system on.

Turning the AV System Off (Video)
At the end of your session, press the “Power Off” button in the “System Power” button in the top right corner of the touch screen. You will be prompted to confirm that you wish to turn the power off. Select “Yes.”


Single View Mode (Video)
To send a single source to the front screen, press the “Single View” button in the “Screen Layout” area located in the top left corner of the screen. Once “Single View” has been selected, select the source you wish to send to the screen from the option available.

Quad View Mode (Video)
To send up to four sources to the front screen, press the “Quad View” button in the “Screen Layout” area located in the top left corner of the screen. Once “Quad View” has been selected, select the sources you wish to send to the screen from the options available. Please Note: The audio from the top left display is the only audio sent to the room speakers. The room does not blend the audio from all of the inputs.

Placing a Phone Call (Video)
To initiate a phone call, select the “Audio Conference” button at the top of the touch screen on the podium in the front of the room. Press the “Clear” button if a phone number already exists in the phone number field. Enter the phone number you wish to call. After you have entered the phone number, press the green telephone icon button to initiate the call. At the end of the phone call, press the red phone button to end the call. To adjust the mic level in the call (the in-room audio being sent to the conference call), select the up or down arrow in the “Mic Volume” area of the screen. To mute the audio being sent to conference call, select “Mute Mic” in the “Mic Volume” area of the screen.

Camera Control
To make adjustments to the camera and to select the AV Bridge input (which camera will be sent to the local computer), press the “Camera Control” button at the top of the touch screen, located on the podium in the front of the classroom. On the left, you will see an area called “AV Bridge Input.” This will allow you to send either the front camera or back camera to the AV bridge (computer) by either pressing “Front Camera” or “Rear Camera.”

To control a camera, first, select the camera you with to control at the top of the “Camera Control” box. Press either the “Front Camera” or “Rear Camera” button to select the camera. By pressing the directional control, you can now pan and tilt the camera you have selected. To zoom in or out, press the “Zoom In” or “Zoom Out” buttons next to the control wheel.
